In 2003 I began work on a research project that has taken me to places that I never imagined: the cultural heritage of space exploration. Now I am determined to bring to light the secrets at the heart of the Space Age.
What sort of digging tools do I need to become a space archaeologist? As space flight only goes back to 1957, is archaeology the appropriate term?
ReplyDeleteExcavation in the traditional sense is not a method we use in space archaeology for obvious reasons! Yes, this is archaeology because it is material culture - it can be in any time or place, it doesn't have to be old. We call it the archaeology of the contemporary world and it is an accepted sub-discipline.
