St...Did my comment get eaten? I'll try again... Starman in the car was a callback to the opening scenes of the movie Heavy Metal (https://youtu.be/t_KXgFpguE0?t=22) exciting long-term science fiction fans (or those who appreciate the classics), but also allowed us to have an anthropomorphic figure whose experience we could share vicariously. Starman allowed humans to imagine themselves "driving" from Earth to Mars and created an exciting fantasy in that way. I think it created a much more dynamic image than the others we've scene.Deana L. First, it was a callback to fans of the movie Heavy Metal, recreating an iconic scene from the opening of that movie (https://youtu.be/t_KXgFpguE0?t=22). Second, I think that the Starman, even though it wasn't human, looked human enough that it allowed us to imagine ourselves behind the wheel of that car and what that experience would be like. It was very easy to anthropomorphize Starman and feel a sense of wonder at the thought of "driving" away from Earth to Mars....Deana L. As I understand it, there is a mannequin inside the space suit but it is hard to get solid information. As soon as I saw the title I thought, “of course!” But I expected it to start with the Apollo 4 whole Earth view or maybe the Lunar Orbiter Earthrise. Those were unmanned as is the Tesla. Tesla’s external cameras are mounted on gantries to the front and side. I won’t be surprised to learn that the space suit and even the car are just empty shells supported on armatures for rigidlity during launch.
